In 1947, David Pace created this salsa and named it Picante, a word which is Spanish for "piquant", meaning "flavorful" or "spicy". Although he mainly dealt with a large variety of condiments before, he eventually decided to focus on refining and marketing this salsa instead. Pace Foods has since released many more varieties of salsa, but their Picante Sauce is their oldest and most famous.
Pace's Hot Picante Sauce is a delicious blend of simple ingredients which include tomatoes, onions, jalapenos and garlic. It has a smooth consistency with only a few chunks of jalapeno. Compared to most other popular salsas commonly found in supermarkets, it's very spicy. If you want a smooth, fresh tasting salsa that isn't shy about heat, give Pace's Picante Sauce a try.
